Fifteen Campanil editors are packing-up their raincoats and umbrellas, preparing to fly to Seattle for this year’s Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) national journalism conference from March 1-4.
The ACP conference is a meeting of editors and journalists from college papers. It is an opportunity to gain and share information by attending seminars and student panels covering the latest in the world of student news publications and reporting.
Three of our editors, Eden Sugay (Health & Sports), Jen Ramos (Asst. Arts & Features) and Lauren Sliter (Editor in Chief), will be speakers on student panels. The discussions will include reporting on a private college campus, managing an online news site and managing a weekly news publication, which we do pretty well.
We are proud to be representing Mills as a small private college and an all-women news organization. We are excited to bring Mills and our hard work here at The Campanil to the attention of other college news organizations through networking with other editors and journalists, and show them who’s boss (or boss lady in this case).
This is an exciting opportunity for us to learn new media and new means of reporting and sharing the news so that we can continue to bring you the best and most up to date information.
Sharing their experience and knowledge in the field of journalism, this year’s dynamic keynote speakers include :
Jennifer Sizemore, Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of the MSNBC Digital Net, msnbc.com and TODAY.com. Sizemore is also Executive Producer of NBC News, at msnbc. com.
Linda Thomas, the morning news host on 97.3 KIRO FM and reporter at MyNorthwest. com.
Jerry Brewer, a sports columnist for The Seattle Times, who was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his series “A prayer for Gloria” that led to his first book, “Gloria’s Miracle.”
Be sure to follow the team’s adventures – from the panel discussions to the top of the Space Needle – on our Twitter and Tumblr site. And, just think, if you join the paper you can go to this next year!
