Super Tuesday saw wins for Republic candidate John McCain and democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in California, but no clear democratic front-runner emerged from the primary elections held in twenty-two states.

On the republican side, clear front-runner John McCain took the lead in California in the winner-take all system used by the Republican Party.

Iwas very captivated by the article published in last week's paper about the cancellation of the Chinese language courses. It left me wondering why you didn't mention the Arabic program's similar plight. However, as a student who was accepted to next year's Institute for Civic Leadership program (ICL), I've been shocked to learn that so few people did not know that it, too, has been canceled.

As president of the Mills Students for Barack Obama, I would also like to extend a special thank you for acknowledging our role on the Mills campus.

I had spent three years at Mills as a commuting student. I was approaching my fourth and final year and still did not feel the strong sense of community that is often said to be discovered while in college. I, like many students on campus, have had to work several jobs while continuing school and did not expect my collegiate experience to be anything like what we see on television; but I at least wanted to have a community of friends that I could be supportive of and who could be supportive of me.

We are quick to complain about the frustrations and shortcomings that occupy our considerations, but rarely do we transcend our negativities to simply appreciate our surroundings.

Everyone knows that Mills strives to be a place where equality, diversity and the enjoyment of variety are taken seriously. So it pains me when Mills makes a blatant oversight that could negatively, and embarrassingly, affect students.
Mills must know that it has a Jewish student population; students have a yearly Seder at the chapel and a Jewish Student Union was tentatively formed.

Recently, the Associated Students of Mills College (ASMC) launched a book drive in an effort to increase Uganda's literacy rates, held the first ever Spirit Week, and organized a dinner theatre, "Murder at the Four Deuces." The Senior class was successful in promoting senior apparel-the purple shirts are everywhere, and the Freshwoman class officers' alacrity in promoting class spirit gives us hope for Mills' future.

The most passionately expressed opinion that seems to permeate throughout the Mills campus is one of food, and its general inadequacy. Come now, ladies, for the indecent amount of money we spend attending this alleged prestigious school, we deserve properly delicious foods to nourish both our minds and bodies.

I'm sure that I am not the first nor the last to flood your desk with letters complaining about the recent tuition increase, but nonetheless feel compelled to speak out about something so heavy on the minds of so many.

We all know the semantics of the raise, so I'll avoid the figures and go straight to the heart of the issue: WE CAN'T PAY MUCH MORE! Mills spouts all sorts of self-praise in its efforts to recruit women of all backgrounds and to make education more affordable, but these increases without financial aid increases prove counterproductive to this cause.
The costs of obtaining a college degree have been rising well above the rate of inflation for the past decade. At the same time, many universities have been fattening the size of their endowments.
