Professor Nalini Ghuman was banned from entering the United States last year, according to the New York Times.

She was returning from a research trip in Britain, where upon arriving in San Francisco International Airport, her residency visa was revoked. She has yet to be provided a reason why her visa was terminated early.

In a campus-wide email Renee Jadushlever, Vice President for Operations, said that Dr. Ghuman’s visa revocation “is of deep concern to the Mills community.

Through appropriate channels, the College will continue to seek answers to the many questions that remain unresolved about the status of her visa application and why the U.S. State Department barred her from re-entering the country. As an institution of higher education, we urge the protection of academic freedom and first amendment rights, and hope that the current media attention will expedite a just resolution to this matter.”
